Building Roku Apps

Apps for the Roku platform use a cloud-based solution. Because of this, apps for a Roku platform require a special setup for development and testing. Use the following procedures to set up a development and test environment for your ongoing design and development work.

For development and app testing, you can build the app for the macOS or Linux platform targets. You.i TV recommends that you use macOS and Xcode as a development platform. From this point forwards, the procedures and examples in this document assume you are using macOS and Xcode as a development and test platform. However, You.i TV recommends that the final app be tested on Linux during development.
